Vacation 2005 Day One !
I was starting to wonder if we could ever get going! Finally by 10AM we were on your way. Katie was left at home this time because we are planning on doing alot of touring and are taking the popup. We just don't trust her to stay inside by herself for that long so my aunt and cousin are taking care of her this week
Heading north up 75 the plan was to stop and east breakfast then go to the Carillon Historical park in Dayton Ohio. Since we got such a late start we ended up with brunch at a Golden Corral off exit 44. YUM!
After eating we headed back up north to Carillon Park. The park is on 65 acres and included 24 exhibit buildings and structures. It is the home of wright brothers 1905 flyer 3, the worlds first practical airplane. Also included is a 13 minute movie on the airplane invention and the Wright Brothers life. To me that was worth the $8.00 admision alone! For the transporation lover this is the place to be! There are trains, old buses, trolley cars etc in the huge transporation building and you are allowed to tour each car. Located in the wagon shed is an 1843 Conestogas wagon. You know.. the kind that took our ancestors to the west.
There is also Clups cafe on the premises but wasn't open when we were there which was a good thing because of the huge meal we ate earlier! You can also bring your own lunch and eat in the picnic grove but no outdoor cooking is allowed in this area.
Some of the other buildings included in the park admision are a print shop, tavern, sun oil station, watch tower, porter engine, iron bridge, Miami & Eire Canel locks and the locust grove school.
We spent almost 2 hours there and could have spent longer but we still needed to get to the campground and get set up for the week.
Here are a couple of pictures from the park!
